are in the Cartuja of Santo Domingo College (Seville; Fig. 1); one is in the Convent of the Guardian
Angel (Granada); and another is in the Church of Santos Justo y Pastor (Granada; Fig. 2). The second
group involves depictions of Christ kneeling in supplication, either with or without joined hands, two
examples of which are in Granada, in the Convent of Santa Isabel La Real and in the Convent of San
Antón. Both sculptures in the second group are carved in high relief, and depict the figure half-length
with the hands crossed over the chest, faced frontally, or in profile. The third group consists of bust-
length versions; four examples are preserved in the Convent of Santa Inés and the Convent of the
Guardian Angel; in the Church of Santos Justo y Pastor, Granada; and in the Church of San Bartolomé,
Jaén. Since the majority of the brothers’ work depicted Christ’s physical suffering, Orozco Díaz coined
their nickname ‘los escultores del Ecce Homo’.11
