This style is influenced by the work of, amongst others, the ornemaniste Jean Berain. All the ornament is recut in C
the gesso, giving a fineness of detail and a crisp finish to the veining of leaves, petals and shells, and a variety of
texture to the ground. These features are enhanced by the mellow tone of the gilding, which catches the light
as the spectator moves in front of the painting, lending it a sense of vivacity and motion.
